Klezmania is regarded as Australia's foremost exponents of klezmer music and Yiddish song. They perform dynamic instrumentals and songs in Yiddish and English. They carry the audience along an emotional journey and break down language barriers through engaging explanations of the songs. With energy and passion they play everything from romantic ballads to whirling frenetic traditional dance tunes to foot tapping jazzy songs. Klezmania's broad repertoire moves from the diverse cultures of the "Old World" of Rumania, the Balkans, Turkey and the Ukraine to the USA and Australia with their own spirited original music. Enjoy the depth and colour of klezmer music and yiddish folk with Klezmania live or on recordings.

Street Concert

A big part of In One Voice is the Street Concert, where well known Jewish musicians and performers, local choirs and bands, Jewish day schools and other community organisations perform songs, dances and other acts with a focus on Hebrew, Yiddish, Jewish and Israeli music.

This page will be continually updated with information about artists and groups that will be performing at In One Voice 2015.

Two summers ago Lauren Glezer was traveling her way around India, finding inspiration in all of it’s beauty and blemishes. It was when she fell ill that she vowed to spend the remainder of her days writing and singing the songs of her soul. Since then she has spent many hours locked away in her bedroom writing and recording her debut EP, “Searching For Tall”.  'I use music to map my personal journey - my own ups and downs and the stories of the people that I meet along the way. I find the more honest my songs are, the freer I become' , writes Lauren. Old news to her friends but a newcomer to the Melbourne scene, Lauren has played at some of Melbourne best-loved venues including the Toff in Town, the Wesley Anne and Pop Records, playing solo, or with her incredibly talented band that consists of bassist, Ryan Monro (The Cat Empire) and drummer Conrad Tracy (founder of Revolver drums).

My first success was at the Moorabbin Primary School talent show, I dressed up as a nanna. "Nanna" told funny stories from when she was a student at at the school eighty years ago.  I have never looked back. I have completed a Performing Arts degree at Monash University on scholarship and have been lucky enough to travel to the USA to study with some of the best coaches and performers around like Robert X. Modica and Rachel Rosenthal. Back in Melbourne, I have worked with international directors and teachers including Howard Fine, Wendy Ward and Stefan Mrowinski. In the early years, while I was waiting for my "big break" I decided to mount my own shows. Several shows later, I won best actress and best writing at Short and Sweet Sydney with my Centrelink comedy "Joanne's Real World" and have toured my Yiddish cabaret "My Mameloshn" all over. Mum is Israeli, dad is Lithuanian, with Romanian grandparents on one side and a bubba from the shtetl on the other, you can see why I love culture and languages.

Currently I'm writing a Jewish Australian sit-com so stay tuned.

Our school provides a learning environment aimed at nurturing students’ individual talent. We offer over 70 classes a week to suit various levels and styles – boys and girls, aged 2, toddler, dancers to professionals. Our dancers are known for their outstanding performances in many community events, competitions and eisteddfods; in solos and troupes. Our exam results in all dance styles are consistently excellent. We take pride in our annual concert, where our students get a chance to not only showcase their talent but more greatly, share their love for dance.

Sefra Burstin School of Dance is defined by the energy, passion and enthusiasm of our students, teachers and parents - uniquely bonded in dance, and in the lifelong friendships they find along the way.

The Bashevis
Singers

The first songs we ever heard were Yiddish songs, sung to us by our grandmothers. Even then, when we could hardly understand a word of Yiddish, these songs reached into our hearts. Perhaps that was because it was our grandmothers who sang them to us. They had been through so much and yet they could still love with so much passion and humanity. Then we got older and our grandmothers and mothers taught us to sing these songs and we sang them for our grandparents and with our grandparents and they forged a bond with the past and the future that remains unbroken. These Yiddish songs are full of gentle humour, yearning for love and a fragile hope.
